Professor

Butler

Professor Butler, J.D., LL.M. is a multi-talented speaker, teacher, author, actress and advocate. She is an accomplished speaker and lecturer with over two-dozen nationwide speaking engagements to her credit. She holds a Juris Doctorate from California Western School of Law and a Master of Laws in Entertainment and Media from Southwestern University School of Law/Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, England.

 

With more than14 years of experience working for record labels, publishing companies and film studios, Butler's legal and business affairs credits are vast.  They include compilation album, film, and soundtrack licensing for Rhino Records, contract work for MGM films and television shows, marketing and promotion on a variety of Pioneer Entertainment albums projects and legal representation for several major and independent entertainment companies.

 

Professor Butler also has 16 years of undergraduate and graduate level teaching experience as Director of Music Industry Studies at Minnesota State University, Mankato, Course Director of Entertainment Marketing and Entertainment Media Distribution at The Los Angeles Film School; Associate Professor of Music Business at MTSU (Middle Tennessee State University),  Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Music Business at the University of Memphis and adjunct Professor of ADR at the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law.

 

She is currently Chair of the Music Business/Management Department at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, and is the first woman and the first person of color to lead the department.
